ONE Community
In June 2023, Shelby County Commissioners approved a plan to generate initial funding for ONE Campus, a rebuild, modernization and expansion of Regional One Health. Thanks to Mayor Lee Harris’ leadership and the Commission’s support, there is a pathway to transforming one of the oldest hospitals in the region into a state-of-the-art academic medical center that will continue to provide lifesaving, life-changing care for thousands of patients every year.
The ONE Campus initiative proposes one of the largest infrastructure projects in Shelby County history. We are grateful to Mayor Harris and the Commission for recognizing the critical need to replace our aging facilities with an inviting, secure campus that serves as a destination point for patients and robust resource for our community. We look forward to partnering with our elected leaders as we continue to develop the funding and design for our premier health care campus.

Where We Are Today
Our Vision
At the heart of our mission lies a bold, transformative vision: to establish a world-class academic medical center in Memphis. This project is more than just a construction—it’s a commitment to the future of healthcare in Shelby County. We’re shaping a future where groundbreaking research, cutting-edge care, and next-generation education converge for the benefit of all.
From Past to Present
Shelby County, home to over 900,000 residents, has faced significant healthcare challenges. Nearly 19% of its population lives below the poverty line, and the county faces high mortality rates due to cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes. Regional One Health, the region’s only level I trauma center and verified burn center, has historically been the safety net hospital, serving the area’s most critical and complex cases. Today, we’re taking the next leap forward, from merely reacting to healthcare needs to proactively reshaping them.
Important Components
- About Shelby County: With high rates of chronic disease and a population that faces substantial health challenges, Shelby County is a community ready for innovative healthcare solutions. Our new campus responds to these needs by focusing on providing advanced, specialized care.
- About Regional One Health: For decades, Regional One Health has been on the frontline of healthcare delivery, providing essential services like trauma care, burn treatment, and high-risk pregnancy care. As we evolve, we continue to be the trusted healthcare provider for those who need it most.
Academic Medical Center
Components of an Academic Medical Center
This campus isn’t just another hospital. We’re building an academic medical center that redefines what healthcare means for Memphis. By integrating education, research, and patient care, we will not only treat patients but also train the next generation of medical professionals and conduct research that will address the community’s unique health challenges.
Changing the Trajectory for Shelby County
Shelby County’s rates of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes are among the highest in the state. Through our partnership with the University of Tennessee, we will provide specialized care and cutting-edge treatments to address these chronic diseases, changing the healthcare landscape for the county.
Economic Impact
The academic medical center will bring economic growth to Memphis, creating jobs, attracting medical talent, and fostering research collaborations. This is not only an investment in healthcare but also in the region’s long-term economic vitality.
